The newspaper reported that the avalanche, in the Dragon's Tail area above Chair 9, was triggered by ski patrol performing avalanche control duties. According to the newspaper, a small, two-foot crown broke above the ski patroller. As a result of the avalanche carrying him down the mountain and into a tree, the patroller suffered cracked or broken ribs.
