| episode_narrative | A natural avalanche near Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon resulted in road impacts, a brief damming of a nearby river, and one subsequent indirect injury. |
| event_narrative | A large naturally occurring avalanche took place in the morning hours near Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon. Snow with the avalanche flow covered the entire base of the falls in Provo Canyon and deposited snow onto State Route 189. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, trees were included within the flow, resulting in blocking and damming of the Provo River for a period of time. Several hours after the avalanche, an employee with the water conservancy district was inspecting a flooded building, at which time a portion of the snow dam holding back the river current broke free. The employee was caught in the floodwater to an extent, managed to cling to a tree until water began to recede, and then was able to find safe ground on a cement stack in the middle of the river until rescue crews could get to him. The employee was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for hypothermia. Per the Utah Avalanche Center, avalanche danger was rated in the high category along all slopes and elevations in the Provo area for the day. |
