Exoplanets
Every confirmed planet orbiting another star gets one slot in the exoplanet dex — 6,354 worlds and counting, from the first pulsar planets confirmed in 1992 to discoveries announced this year. Each slot holds the planet's measured parameters and the properties of its host star, because a planet's star is the prime driver of its climate. Every value traces to a published detection — transit light curves, radial-velocity wobbles, microlensing events, direct images. No simulated worlds.
The dex
One slot = one confirmed exoplanet, in discovery order. The roster grows weekly as new confirmations land at the archive — hundreds of planets a year. Fifty-eight slots carry the archive's own "controversial" flag, kept visible rather than hidden: a disputed detection is part of the record.
Provenance
Every slot traces to the NASA Exoplanet Archive (NASA/IPAC, Caltech) — the authoritative registry of confirmed exoplanets, using the archive's own designated best parameter set for each planet. TerraPulse re-pulls the catalog weekly.
What's in a slot
- Identity & discovery — planet and host-star names, discovery method, year, and facility
- The planet — orbital period, distance from its star, eccentricity, radius, mass (with the archive's mass-provenance flag: a true mass and a radial-velocity minimum mass are not pretended to be the same thing), bulk density, and the starlight flux it receives
- The star — spectral type, temperature, radius, mass, metallicity, and luminosity: the engine of the planet's climate
- The system — distance from Earth, sky position, and brightness
What you will not find: equilibrium temperatures or stellar ages. Both are model constructs rather than measurements, and the dex holds measured reality only.
